A Very
Special Meeting
Our September 4th meeting was a get together
at Nes Ewanik's Toy Room. This is a
private collection and is a great display of
memorabilia by a friendly enthusiast!
There are lots of lighted neon signs
representing Oil Companies, Auto Dealers and
Retail Service Stations. There is also a
great collection of Vintage Gas Pumps, Juke
Boxes, Soft Drink Machines, Artwork,
Collector Toys and much more. This is
a must-see collection! Thanks a lot,
Nes!!

The 7th Annual Thunderbird and
Special Interest Ford Show & Shine
......
The 7th Annual!....hard to believe!....and
77 entrants...a new record...gotta love
those sevens! All this on a perfect day, at
a pretty neat venue, Universal Ford Lincoln
who is also the much appreciated major
sponsor of the event. Team Lee, once again
outdid themselves in organizing a great
show, adding a category for trucks this
year, a trend that we will see in the
future. As always, a vote of thanks and
appreciation to the Alberta Mustang Club for
their strong support in recognizing the
Thunderbird marque. A wonderful afternoon
was had looking at the fine collection of
treasures, casting the ballots for your
favorites and chatting with friends, old and
new. Thanks to President Marie and Husband
Ken from the Edmonton Thunderbird Club for
attending, so soon after hosting the
Northwest Regional Convention....an
organizational challenge definitely not for
the faint of heart! The trophies were
unique, and well done. Also many thanks to
the sponsors for their great prize
donations. It was nice to see Best of Show
go to Clayton and Joyce Busch, from Stanford
Montana with their pride and joy, a '66
convertible. They were attendees at the
Regional who had planned to attend this
event on the way home. They were thrilled!
Someone else who was thrilled was my missus,
who won the 50/50 draw. It was, as always,
good fun!.....Next year is number 8 .....so
don't be late! (I know....get the hook! )
....Cheers!

..The
2008 V.T.C.I. Northwest Regional
Convention/Edmonton Thunderbird
Club/Thunderbird Heaven....
.....well....maybe not Heaven....That's
where Thunderbirds sent to the crusher go
isn't it?...But definitely a Haven for about
85 'Birds for four days. A fine and
interesting collection of treasures they
were and book ended by the same number
NewBirds as there were Baby Birds. Also in
attendance where a greater number of the
newer/modded 'Birds in general, reflecting
the changes taking place due to age
demographic and other outside influences in
a changing world. In concert with this, a
much simpler and revised judging form/model
was introduced allowing novice judges a
chance to experience this facet of the
hobby. This format allowed faster
processing and reflected the fact that most
historical chronicling of Thunderbirds ended
with the 'Flairs. The weather was perfect,
for this northernmost destination in the
Pacific Northwest Convention grid. As well
as Alberta and British Columbia (with a
strong representation from Kelowna),
attendees arrived from Washington, Montana,
Idaho and Sweden (without their '55). The
venue was provided by an
owner/member/sponsor and proved to work very
well, as did the rooms, food and the Awards
Banquet. The awards were well done and well
deserved. The Edmonton Thunderbird Club is
a very active and involved club, and no
doubt, influenced by their enthusiastic and
driven President. This was reflected in the
organization and attention to detail
displayed for all the schedule of events
over the four days. It was also reflected
in the strength of the Sponsors and
Contributors.....Well Done! and good fun!
and, as always, a pleasure to meet new and
seasonal old friends in this remarkable
hobby of ours....Cheers!

Bylaw
5M2004
There has
been some concern over
Bylaw 5M2004 concerning yard clutter
and where vehicles undergoing restoration
might fit into this. General consensus
seems to be that if you're a good neighbour,
keep the parts out-of-sight and the car
covered, you probably don't have much to be
concerned about at this point. However
this may be worth keeping any eye on as
revisions are tabled. A
.PDF
copy of the bylaw can be accessed
here.

The 2008 World of Wheels
Feb 22 - 24, 2008 at the Round-up
Center, Calgary
.....managed to stop by just after opening
on Sunday....What a great show!....What a
complete sensory overload!...The effort that
goes into the displays is amazing. You can
almost sense the pent up energy that the
winter months create, to be finally released
in preparation for this show...the beginning
of the season we all look forward to. The
Thunderbird Club's theme and display
presentation was unique and well done...I
really liked the poster re-creations on the
wall and would wonder how many other people
did as well....maybe feasible to do a batch
for resale?...Sure would look good on the
garage wall!....As always it's a treat to
run into friends you haven't seen since the
end of last season...who are all eager to be
ready for Spring Thaw. It's also a treat to
see the treasures that are making their
debut.....We have some cool treasures
stashed away in this city, to be sure! I
have to mention the motorcycle collection as
well, as the creativity and craftsmanship
that goes into those rides is
amazing....same passion, but for two wheels
instead of four, whether it be a total
restoration or a radical mod. I think part
of what makes this show stand out, aside
from the frenetic energy displayed, is there
is something for everyone with an interest
in attending this venue, the scope is that
wide......By the time I was leaving, the
ticket line was out the door and cars
waiting to park were backed right up!....Is
this city about automotive enthusiasts?....I
think so!......See you at Spring
Thaw....Cheers!
